Monday 27 – Wednesday 29 July, 10am – 4pm
This new short course at Forgan Arts Centre will provide a fun and creative environment for young people aged 15-17 (S5 age) who are thinking about applying to art college or university in any subject from fine art, graphic design to filmmaking, animation, and architecture.
Over three days, a cohort of twenty students will join in art activities that will spark ideas, open you to new techniques and challenge you to unlearn assumptions and attitudes about art.
Students will collaborate with peers, ask questions, take creative risks, and build confidence in articulating ideas.
Taking place in July at Forgan Arts Centre, you will be inspired by the ideas and themes of the place and the Arts Centre as a Garden.
Overview
Day One: Students will grow skills in drawing from observation and by thinking critically about ways of drawing/seeing. An experimental loosening up day, this will include drawing as practice, drawing as research, visual gathering, digital photography and alternative photography processes.
Day Two: Students will take part in an ‘Ideas Jam’; what does creativity mean in the time of AI? This day we will work together to practice prototyping, critical thinking, development of ideas and contemporary art history.
Day Three: On the final day students will work together to make a large sculptural or 2D work in collaborative groups. Using what you have learned in the first two days to formulate a culmination of ideas into an artwork.
