Community Media Garden

We’re launching a new hub to help amplify community voices and deepen engagement with our ever-evolving work.

The Community Media Garden will be a social space to share stories, knowledge and ideas, learn new skills, and build networks. It aims to empower people, spark conversations and celebrate our different perspectives of the world and where we live. Inspired by independent community journalism initiatives, it will help us test participatory and cooperative methods of communication and engagement.

We want our community to be active contributors and co-designers, shaping what we communicate; how stories are gathered and which platforms are used. The hub is an open space to explore co-production, shared storytelling, distributed decision making, and how learning feeds back into organisational decision making.

We’re working on a physical home for our media hub; a makeshift newsroom for creating all forms of media, from zines to banners, writing to printing. This will be a space for connection and conversation, and will be open to community groups and activists in need of a social making space.

Talk to us

Are you interested in civic media? Would you like to learn new skills? Are you a writer/photographer/designer/artist who wants to play a role in local democracy?

The creation of a new community magazine is central to our Community Media Garden.  We want to create a free publication for our community, holding local experiences and global perspectives in the same space. The project is a place to explore our own programmes and themes on a deeper level, and to collect local stories and share these with our community, ensuring all voices are heard.

If you’d like to be involved and contribute thoughts and ideas, please email teri@forganartscentre.co.uk for more information. Or if you’re in need of a work space to help you organise, make protest banners or flyers, or to host a volunteer meet-up please get in touch.
