Making a Wormery – Q&A

Saturday 15 March

11am-12pm

Wormery Q&A; Introduction to keeping worms as a way to make compost.

About the Workshop

Interested in starting your own wormery but wanting to learn a bit more about it before committing to looking after worms?
Join us for a wormery Q&A; meet the Forgan worms; learn about good worm keeping practice; what foods to avoid adding to your wormery; what to do with the worm wee (!) and all the black gold (super rich compost) the worms produce.

Vermiculture is a low carbon way to convert your kitchen waste into high quality plant food. We’ll cover a number of different set ups, visit the established wormery at Forgan, and have time for a cup of tea at the Coorie cafe.

What to Bring

This event will take place outside, please dress for the weather.

About the Tutor

The Q&A is run by Dr Helena Simmons.
Helena has an academic and research background, having completed a Botany B.Sc. (Hons) and a PhD at Glasgow University. Plants are the medium that can provide better biodiversity and climate outcomes, improve mental health and are needed to sustain ourselves, so after moving away from lab based research, Helena is keen to share her passion about plants via education and community engagement, working with volunteers in community gardens and with school groups. Plants are the foundations upon which all else rests. Helena leads on the strategy for the grounds and gardens working closely with volunteers, local people and partners to ensure the gardens are a site for climate action and activism, educating people in environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and gardening.
We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.
