Sunday 29 March
- Installation, open 10am-4pm (drop-in)
- Midday gathering from 12-2pm (free but ticketed)
Join artist filmmakers Webb-Ellis for the closing day of their Talking Forests residency and an opportunity to experience what has emerged from their time spent working with Forgan’s communities and the River Tay.
Installation
Open to drop in from 10am to 4pm
Throughout the day, you’re invited to spend time with an immersive two-screen film installation developed during the residency.
The work weaves together moving image and sound recordings gathered along the river Tay, alongside video and drawings created during workshops with local people and children. Across two screens the installation presents a loose constellation of encounters with the Tay itself, and the human and more-than-human communities living alongside this powerful river.
The piece is sound-tracked by the music of Curlew – Scottish alt-folk musician and audiovisual artist Gill Higgins. Created in response to the project’s themes, and incorporating field recordings of the Tay, Curlew will perform her original music live during the lunchtime event.
The work has been developed through workshops led in collaboration with artist Laura Burns, choreographer Lucy Suggate, visual artist Charlie Ford, philosopher Grace Lockrobin, and outdoor adventure leader Piotr Gudan.
You are welcome to drop in and experience the installation at any time between 10-4pm.
Lunchtime gathering
Free but ticketed
At 12 noon we will host an informal gathering to mark the end of the residency. Come for:
- A short introduction by the artists reflecting on their residency
- A live performance by musician Curlew
- A light social lunch
- Time to experience the installation together
The gathering is a chance to come together to reflect on the ideas and experiences that have unfolded during the residency and project. The installation is free to visit throughout the day. Tickets for the midday gathering are free but booking will help us know numbers for lunch!
About the artists
Webb-Ellis are British/Canadian artist filmmakers. Using film, dance, music and installation, they create work which aims to offer participants and viewers ways to imaginatively access the political and philosophical, through the lens of the subconscious and the body. Webb-Ellis are Talking Forests Artists-in-Residence at Forgan Art Centre.
Curlew is the moniker of Celtic alt-folk musician Gill Higgins. She is known for her unique blend of looped vocals, harmonium, synth drones and field recordings. Her work explores the intersections of nature and technology, and science and intuition creating ethereal, layered soundscapes.
