This Spring 2026, we’re starting a community library at Forgan Arts Centre. It will offer a range of books and zines, suitable for children and adults.
Inspired by our yearly themes, and the idea of ‘an art centre as a garden’, Forgan Solidarity Library will gather resources that help us to learn and connect with the natural world and our human community.
Here’s what you might encounter in the library:
- Under Talking Forests, find stories of friendship and cooperation between different creatures or learn how to be a ‘good ancestor’.
- Under Ecologies of Migration, discover stories of human, animal and plant migration, and celebrate cultural and biodiversity.
- And under Queering Nature, find stories of different kinds of family and ways of being, and LGBTQ+ inspired folklore.
The main book collection will be in our foyer, for reference only at the moment, and we will create a cosy reading space for visitors to browse and spend time there.
The community library will also host events and initiatives led by local people:
- Wee Peaceful Readers is a reading group for 5–8-year-olds, exploring themes of empathy, kindness, diversity, feminism and gender inclusivity.
- Wee Anti-Racist Library is a free pop-up for children and adults, lending books focussed on stories of justice, environmentalism and inclusion from around the world.
All forthcoming events will be published on our website.
If you have an idea for a library session that you’d like to bring to Forgan Solidarity Library, or if you have any relevant books you’d like to donate, please get in touch with curator@forganartscentre.co.uk.
