About the workshop
This free 1 hour workshop is a quick introduction to some methods you can use in your own garden to store more carbon in the soil both long and short term. The workshop will cover biochar, enhanced rock weathering, mulching and some garden techniques to use (and those to avoid) for maximum carbon capture in your own garden.
The workshop is free, booking is required.
What to Bring
The session will take place outside, so please dress for the weather.
If you have your own gardening gloves please bring them along to use as we will be handling compost, we have a few spare pairs if you need to borrow them. Bring a small jar if you would like to take some rock dust to try using in your own garden.
About the Tutor
Helena has an academic and research background, having completed a Botany B.Sc. (Hons) and a PhD at Glasgow University. Plants are the medium that can provide better biodiversity and climate outcomes, improve mental health and are needed to sustain ourselves, so after moving away from lab based research, Helena is keen to share her passion about plants via education and community engagement, working with volunteers in community gardens and with school groups. Plants are the foundations upon which all else rests. Helena leads on the strategy for the grounds and gardens working closely with volunteers, local people and partners to ensure the gardens are a site for climate action and activism, educating people in environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and gardening.
